About Breckenridge

Breckenridge is a city in as well as the county seat of Summit County, Colorado. During the winter months the city is a popular ski resort with slopes located in the Rocky Mountains. During the summer months tourists visit the area to take advantage of Brackenridge's hiking trails, wildflowers, the Blue River, Lake Dillion, biking, boating, white water rafting, and to visit the several shops located on Main Street. The Front Range, Tenmile Range and the Arapaho National Forest are also located in the city. Since 1981, the city has hosted the Breckenridge Festival of Film and an annual Fourth of July Parade is also held in the city. Other annual events held in Breckenridge include the International Snow Sculpture Championships and the Winter Dew Tour.

Cross country (xc) skiing is done in the back country, outside of ski resort boundries. There are several different types of xc ski equipment, but the idea is to use your own power to move along terrain. The terrain is often isolated, quiet, and inspirational. The activity of self propelling your skis along a trail will work up a sweat, and is a great aerobic workout.
