Before You BUY
We contacted Orsinis early last spring for TOPSOIL. I explained we needed to fill around & build up to a newly constructed brick walkway. I was told there were two types of topsoil - a 'Mushroom Soil' mix and a 'Golf Course mix'. Since we don't have a golf course I described the area & she assured me the mushroom mix should be fine for this purpose. We also asked to have someone come spread the mix and seed the area. Initially the dark mixture LOOKED nice but after 3 weeks (end of April) with only a few patches of grass (where the original soil was exposed) I called. They assured me it would take some time. 2 weeks later we had a contractor over to give us an estimate for landscaping & he explained that this was 'hot' manure & that grass would never grow in this 'stuff'. In addition it wouldn't hold our weight. He was right. We ended up having to get a backhoe in there, scrape the mixture off & replace it with REAL TOPSOIL. Turns out this is a combination of MANURE & PEATMOSS..NO SOIL.... more
