About Cartersville

Cartersville is approximately 20 miles northwest of Marietta or 40 miles northwest of Atlanta in the rolling hills of north Georgia and is within the Atlanta metropolitan area. It has a rich history of Native American culture. The city also suffered extensive damage during the Civil War. Major attractions consist of an archaeolgical site called the Etowah Indian Mounds from 1000 A.D. which has ancient artifacts and fossils, the Booth Western Art Museum, and the Tellus Science Museum which houses the first digital planetarium in north Georgia. Nearby Lake Allatoona features picnicking, camping, boating, fishing, skiing and swimming. Among the biggest companies in Cartersville-Bartow County are Shaw Industries, and Cartersville Medical Center. The biggest schools here are Woodland High School and Cass High School. Famous persons from Cartersville include actor Wayne Knight (Newman from Seinfeld) and Georgia Governor Joe Frank Harris.
