About Dahlonega

The city of Dahlonega, whose name derives from Cherokee for "golden color," is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Lumpkin County, Georgia. Major attractions include the George E. Coleman Sr. Planetarium, the Consolidated Gold Mine, the Crisson Gold Mine and the Dahlonega Gold Museum. Each year in October, the Gold Rush Days Celebration is held here. The biggest school here is North Georgia College, a Liberal Arts institution. Some of the best places to visit when you are in Dahlonega are the nearby Appalachian Trail, Chattahoochee National Forest, Amicalola Falls State Park and Lake Lanier. Notable residents of Dahlonega have included singer and songwriter, Amy Ray and the first female NASCAR driver, Sara Christian.
