What are the requirements for a business that wants to accept credit cards? How does the business process the card payments? What types of fees are typically involved?

The main requirement is a business checking account. Also that you are not on a match list (list kept by Visa of those who abused or used fraud in CC processing).
A good Merchant Service Provider can set you up with a standard Terminal or a Virtual Terminal on your Computer. Then just swipe the cards or enter the #s and batch out at the end of the day. Your money will be in your account in 1-3 days.
Fees run about 1.30%-1.50% for debit, 1.60%-2% for credit if swiped face 2 face, more for telephone or e-commerce. There is also a per transaction fee of $0.10-$.30 and some sort of monthly statement fee usually <$10.00. For e-commerce there are some additional fees for secure access.

Blackwell Construction Inc
Thieves - Pierre Blackwell and David Jackson are CROOKS
THIEF - Blackwell Construction hired us to do 70% of the clearing and grubbing on an Iowa Department of Transportation job. Turnbull's completed the 70% and then asked for payment. Blackwell refused to pay the total amount with no reasons stated. Our contract states the amount owed plus extras that the IDOT added to the contract. Blackwell frauduantly filled out paper work and submitted it to the IDOT stating that he was only paying us $11,800 even though our contract clearly states $22,000 plus extras. He owes us a total of $32,000 and we can't even sue him cause he has nothing to attach it to!... more
