Soda Springs, the second oldest city in Idaho is in Caribou County, Idaho. The city is the county seat of Caribou County. The city is named for the thousands of natural springs of carbonated water that are located in and around the city. The springs were well known to Native Americans and were a famous landmark along the Oregon Trail in the middle 19th century. Today the city is also known as the location of the Soda Springs Geyser, a man-made carbon dioxide generated cold water geyser. This is the largest captive geyser in the world and was featured in "Ripley's Believe It or Not." There are few schools in Soda Springs, one elementary school, one middle and two high schools. Each year in the fall Soda Springs hosts The Soda "Screamer" Half-Marathon and in the summer the "Greatest Fireworks Show Around".
