About Blue Island

Blue Island, nicknamed "The City on the Hill", is located in Cook County, Illinois. The city got its name because of its location on the south end of a glacial moraine that was an island thousands of years ago. The city is also one of only seven cities in the state to be designated a "Preserve America" community by the White House. Many movies have been filmed in Blue Island including Flags of Our Father, Light of Day, and The Express. Television shows such as Cupid and Early Edition have also been filmed in the city. Among the biggest schools in the area are the Moraine Valley Community College and the Environmental Technical Institute. Major attractions located in Blue Island include the Blue Island Area Sports Hall of Fame and the Meadows Golf Club. Famous people with ties to the city include pro baseball player Curtis Granderson and Robert A Schuller, a popular t.v. Evangelist.
