About Canton

Canton is the largest city in Fulton County, Illinois. The city, founded in 1825 by Isaac Swan, started out as a major coal town. Today, Canton's biggest employers include the Illinois River Correctional Institute, Graham Hospital, Spoon River College and retail establishments. The Canton School District serves the students living in the city. The city is host's to community events including the Old Fashion Christmas Walk and the Magical Munchkin Masquerade. Famous people with ties to the city include professional football players Tony Blazine and James "Boomer" Grigsby.

I don't know if there is anything like that here in Canton, but the Contemporary Art Center in Peoria has an "open mike" event on Sundays for poetry readings and such. There are also writers groups and arts meetings in the arts community in Peoria. One good resource is the ArtsPartners email list. www.artspartners.net
