They should be in good enough physical condition to be able to participate in strenuous physical activity. This would be the same necessity if they were going to take an aerobics class. As a beginner, they will be learning basic stances and techniques. This will, in turn, help them gradually improve their conditioning and strengthen their legs and joints. As they advance, the physical requirements go up as well. Karate is a fantastic way to get into and stay in shape as long as you put in the proper effort.
