They will not harm the home if left alone. The nest is built new each season and won't be reused. You can safely remove it once it turns cold. In fact, if you are a gardener, they are great guests because they will dine on various garden pest such as cabbage worms.
Near a door or window may be wise to remove the nest to avoid the inevitable sting when they feel threatened.
