The Cook County city of Palos Heights, IL, according to the 2000 Census, had a population of 11,260. Although it began as a farming community of German and Irish families, today's Palos Heights had literally sold all its farmland for development and is considered to be a highly desirable place to live, providing a diverse offering of culture, commerce, and ideal neighborhoods. Considered the cultural center of Palos Heights, Moraine Valley Community College not only provides a learning environment for the arts, but hosts notable artists and speakers. Palos Heights is also the home of the world's largest outdoor music theater and home of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park. The city's downtown business district provides its residents with easy access to various boutiques, shops, restaurants and services, and as the community continues to expand, so does housing development with bigger homes and gated subdivisions surrounding private golf courses.
