You need to know the discount rate that your company is charged for accepting AMEX. This could be between 2.95% and 3.5% or higher. This should be on the statement that you get from AMEX or you can figure it out using your transactions.

You can determine the discount percentage if you know the original transaction amount and the actual amount that was deposited for a single transaction. The difference between the two will be the discount amount. See the example below.

$125 - Original sale amount
$120.63 - Actual deposit
$4.38 - ($125-120.63=4.38)
$4.38 divided by $125 = 0.035 or 3.5%
Double check by multiplying $125 x 3.5% = $4.38

In this example the discount rate is 3.5% so you multiply each transaction amount by 3.5% to find what should be on the bank statement.

If you are using accounting software you may be able to set this up to automatically calculate.
