Marengo is part of Liberty Township in Crawford County, Indiana. In 2004, an F3 tornado hit the town and caused damage to almost 75% of the town. Marengo's most popular attraction is the Marengo Cave, a National Landmark which was discovered by two school children in 1883. Today, the city offers guided tours of the cave. Other attractions located in the city include West Baden Springs Hotel, the Marengo Cottage and Patoka Lake. Movies such as "Madison" and "Fire from Below" were filmed in the town and at the Marengo Cave. The city is also home to the Marengo Warehouse and Distribution Center. The warehouse is underground and has leased space to both the United States Department of Defense and the Center for Disease Control, both of which specified in contracts that they would not have to reveal what their space contains to the warehouse's management.
