Peru is the county seat of Miami County region/metro area of Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 12,994 and it has an area of 4.6 square miles. The city of Peru was founded by Jason C Smith in 1834 and was home of the Model Automobile Company in the beginning of the 20th Century.
