About Vincennes

Vincennes, the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in Indiana, is the county seat of Knox County. The city's most recognizable landmark is the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park Rotunda. Vincennes is the location of many of the states first's, including the first post office, newspaper, sheriff's office,county hospital and Catholic church. Major attractions here include the Patheon Theater and the Indiana Military Museum. The school district in the city includes five elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools. The city is also home to private schools such as the Southwestern Indian Youth Village and the Wash Valley Christian Academy. Vincennes University, which was established in 1801 as the Jefferson Academy, is one of the college north of the Ohio River. Famous people with ties to the city include comedian Red Skelton and pro baseball player Clint Barmes.
