With stock options, what is the difference if someone shorts a call versus buying a put option?
If you sell (short) a call, the maximum profit you can make is what you received from the sale. The maximum loss is unlimited.
Say you sell a call to buy 100 shares for $50 to someone for a price of $2. If the stock is any amount below $52, you keep up to $2. If it goes above $52, you lose $100 for every point it goes up, because you have to buy the stock for that price and turn around and sell it to your buyer for $50. There is no limit on how high the price can go, so your loss potential is unlimited.
If you buy a put the maximum profit you can make is the difference between your stike price and zero, times 100.
On that same stock, if you buy a put you are buying the right to sell at a given price. Therefore, you make money if the price falls. Say you pay $2 for the right to sell at $50. You make $100 for every point that it falls below $48. That means your maximum profit is $4800. If the stock goes up, the maximum you can lose is the $2 you paid.
HUGE difference between the two.

I will actually give this company 0 stars. TJ somebody with an Iowa cell number, returns the calls left at 913.888.5444. He came out, supposedly serviced our RO, replaced the membrane, charged us $250 (with a "specisl" discopunt). A couple hours after he left, we went to get water and nothing! He had left the main shut off in off position. We turned it back on and eventually got water. After a day or so we realized, that even first thing in the morning the pressure and volume of water was very low. We called and left another message. A day later that call was returned and he scheduled a Monday 5 p.m. appointment. I left work early to cbe at home for JT. At 6:45 I called him, having kept his Iowa cell number, and he said we were on his schedule for Tuesday at 5 p.m., but he did remember it should have been Monday, but he possibly told his scheduler the 30th, which was Tuesday,. So Tuesday I came home at 4 pm.m. At 6:30 I called him. No answer. At 7:00 I called him, no answer. After 7 I... more
Achieving long term success takes persistence, passion, and creativity. Many Small Business Owners have all of these characteristics and more. However, since often they wear many hats they are not able to persistently create, implement, and maintain their marketing. Typically, that means that their sales/marketing goes much like a roller coaster. Up, Down, Up, Down... Take an organic approach utilizing constant, creative marking. It is more of a "slow burn" approach but once it takes it is very hard to put it out.
