About Liberal

Liberal is located in and the county seat of Seward County, Kansas. The first house in what would become Liberal was built by S.S. Rogers in 1872. In 1885, he built the city's first general store. The main industries in Liberal are energy and agriculture. The town's largest employer is National Beef Packing, a beef processing company. Broom corn, winter wheat and cattle are the main industries in Liberal. Cattleco Liberal and Supreme Feeder, two major feedlots, are in Liberal also. Students here attend the Liberal Pubic Schools. Seward Community College as well as two Christian schools are also in the city. Major attractions in Liberal include the Seward County Museum and the Mid-America Air Museum. Famous people with ties to the city include pro basketball players Melvin Sanders and actress Kelli McCarty.
