About Hopkinton

The town of Hopkinton is located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts in the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy metro area and known as the starting point of the Boston Marathon, held annually on Patriots' Day in April. Hopkinton was named after Edward Hopkins, a Harvard benefactor. A major attraction in Hopkinton is the Waseeka Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can view wildlife such as blue herons, spotted sandpipers, kingfishers bluebirds, otters and mink. Computer storage firm, EMC Corporation, is based in Hopkinton. Other places to visit when you are in Hopkinton are nearby parks and recreation areas including Hopkinton State Park, Whitehall State Park and Lake Maspenock. A well-known resident of Hopkinton was the leader of the farmers' rebellion in 1786-1787, Daniel Shays, and founding owner of the Boston Celtics, Walter A. Brown.
