About Lawrence

Located 25 miles north of Boston, Lawrence is a part of the Merrimack River region Massachusetts known for its historic mill buildings along the river and for being the nation’s first planned industrial city in the 1840s. Major attractions include Great Stone Dam and Essex Art Center. Each summer, Veterans Memorial Stadium (the home of Lawrence High School and Central Catholic High School) hosts a national drum corps. Among the biggest companies in Lawrence is shoe company New Balance. The biggest schools here are Northern Essex Community College and Lawrence High School. One of the best places to visit when you are in Lawrence is Lawrence Heritage State Park where boating, bicycling, hiking, and fishing are available. Famous persons from Lawrence include composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein, poet Robert Frost, and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.
