About Newton

Newton is a part of the Middlesex county of Massachusetts. It is known as the Garden City that has no single downtown, but is considered a cluster of 13 villages of sorts and boasts nearly as many downtowns.

Newton was settled around 1630, and hence has plenty of historic charm. This town's historical past is displayed in The Jackson Homestead and Museum. Newton also has two symphonic orchestras: the New Philharmonia Orchestra of Massachusetts and the Newton Symphony Orchestra.

Newton becomes part of history every year when the Boston Marathon runs through Newton's Heartbreak Hill which is a tough stretch of the race. The Echo Bridge, an arch bridge which is noted for its 19th-century masonry, is also worth visiting in Newton.

A notable name from Newton is Oscar-winning actor Jack Lemmon. Also Newton-born is Matt LeBlanc of Friends fame. Interestingly, the Fig Newton (snack) is also named for this city.

Unless you have a circle of friends that dance, you may want to try going to local dance studios. We have a box of used shoes at our dance studio. The students/parents are welcomed to look in the box and take what they need. They can leave a $5 donation if they choose to or just donate a pair of their own dance shoes that they have outgrown.
