They would get a wage. I'm sure it varies by state, area and restaurant, but I've waited tables in both Texas and Louisiana, and servers make about $2.13 an hour, while hosts make minimum wage or slightly above to start. I have tipped a host a few times when they have been especially helpful, but it has never been required. It is, however, typical to tip the bar and the busser a percentage of your overall sales at the end of the night.
