South Bristol is a part of the Lincoln County region/metro area of Maine known for its Fishing and Resorts. Major attractions include the Swing Bridge and the Thompson Ice House. Each year in the summer season there is/are a Boat Builder's Festival. Among the biggest companies in South Bristol are Eugleys Seafood, and Gamage Shipyard. The biggest schools here are South Bristol Elementary School and University of Maine at Augusta. One of the best places to visit when you are in South Bristol is Rutherford Island. The area was originally called "Christmas Cove," after John Smith sailed along its coast on Christmas Day in 1614.
