What are the placement concerns when replacing old deck boards? Should the boards be placed bark side up or bark side down?
Why are you replacing the deck boards? If it is because they are rotting then you need to take a probe and check the joists, girder beams and ledgers to make sure they are not also deteriorating. The number one problem we see is the ledger against the house was not originally flashed correctly and the water gets in between the ledger and the ring joist of the home. When that rots, the deck falls down! Saw this two weeks ago on a 24'x16' deck in Holmen when during a gathering the deck disconnected from the house and fell over. Luckily it is only 3' above the ground and no one was hurt. If you are just upgrading the appearance, I would still check the super structure out carefully, but then the main concern is what are you going to replace it with? treated lumber is inexpensive ($1 sf), but requires regular maintenance to stay nice looking. Composites are less maintenance but end to be expensive ($4-5 sf). The best and most expensive are the full pvc decking products like Azek ($5-7 sf) that have a great system for fastening that leaves no screw holes and do not stain or turn gray like the composites. Need a bit more expertise on installation due to expansion but not that difficult.

Purchased concrete steps in 2008. Had problems with steps crumbling and called Wieser. Someone came out and looked at the problem and told us they would replace the steps next week. They arrived the following Thursday with new steps and not only replaced the old ones, they took the time to spray paint the railings. Excellent follow-up that was much appreciated.... more
I would give him less than one star if I could. He was the rudest "medical professional" I have ever come in contact with. I would not recommend him for any service whatsoever. He is 100% profit-oriented, does not care about the patient at all.... more

This woman is a provider who comes across as a good caring provider. But in reality, she is about quantity not quality when it comes to her daycare children. Money hungry, neglegent, and fake are the 3 best words to explain her... Be careful.... more
In my humble opinion, Corky's is La Crescent's best-kept secret. Growing up in La Crescent, we always looked forward to getting pizza or burgers from Corky's. We were never as thrilled when we would get pizza from Pizza Hut or any other chain. Anyone can tell the difference of the fresh ingredients and handmade sausage. The previous review seems unfounded. The person he is referencing, the owner, has always been courteous to me since I was a little boy coming in for ice cream. They have helped me by donating to local events I've put on in my teens with the Boy Scouts and now into my adulthood. I have nothing but respect for their business, employees, and their role in greater La Crescent.... more
