About Sikeston

Sikeston is mostly located in Scott County, Missouri. A small part of it extends into New Madrid County. It was named after John Sikes who founded the town in 1860. Major attractions here include The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, SEMO Raceway, and the Southeast Missouri Agricultural Museum. The city is also home to fourteen parks. The city has always been associated with country music and many well known musicians, such as Charlie Daniels and Lee Greenwood, have preformed at the rodeo. Students here attend the Siketon School District. Three Rivers Community College and Southeast Missouri State University-Sikeston are both located within the city. The city's largest employer is the newly opened Orgill Inc, the world's biggest supplier of home improvement products. Another big employer here is the Sikeston Power Plant. Famous people with ties to the city include former NFL players James Wilder, Brandon Barnes and Charlie Babb.
