Tarkio, Missouri is a town of 1,935 people located in the far Northwest part of Missouri. Tarkio boasts several parks, including an RV park and a pool. The school was home to a college which operated until 1991. Alumnus Wallace Hume Carothers received his degree from Tarkio College. He later taught at Harvard University. He is also credited with the discovery of the artificial polymers nylon and neoprene. Businesses in Tarkio include Pamida and Dollar General. Tarkio holds a rodeo and parade every year in June. Attractions in Tarkio include the Tarkio Golf Club and the Tarkio Alumni Museum.
