About Beatrice

Beatrice is a city in Gage County, located 40 miles south of state capital Lincoln. Along the Blue River, Beatrice is a scenic spot in the heart of the county, which according to the Visitor's Bureau, is "where American's homestead story begins." The Homestead National Monument, only five miles from Beatrice, takes visitors back into pioneer history, where they tour a typical Nebraskan cabin, walk along prairie trails, and imagine themselves as students in the old school house. The Gage County Museum provides more history in a quaint, repurposed train depot. To relax, residents splash in the Big Blue Water Park or seek out the rides at the annual county fair. With a long pioneer history, the city is still attracting new economic development. Major employers are Exmark Manufacturing and Store Kraft Manufacturing. Students attend School District 15 of Gage County. The county was named for Reverend William Gage, an early Methodist chaplain in the area.
