Hemingford, a village with a population of 993, is located in Box Butte County and is known as “The Potato Capital of the World.” In 2002, the Hemingford TV mast collapsed, killing two workers and injuring three more. Hemingford is featured in many Stephen King novels including “The Stand” (as Hemingford Home), “Children of the Corn (the third installment of the series was filmed almost exclusively in Hemingford),” and “It” (again as Hemingford Home). The schools are Hemingford Elementary, Middle, and High School. Local events and attractions include the Box Butte County Fair, the Christmas Diorama, the City Park, and the State Park.
