The requirements vary from state to state. Some states don't require a license but are changing to licensing . Investigators in those states want the professionalism and legitimacy licensing brings to their profession.

The best way to find out the requirements for the state you plan to practice in is to check with the state PI association or the state agency that does the licensing.

It depends on what type of insurance you have. Some insurance companies will only cover no-fault/workmans comp. and unfortunatley can only be accessed through a chiropractor or physical therapy office. Some of my clients are lucky enough to have insurance that offers reembursements, which means that they pay out of pocket, i furnish them with a letter of acknowledgement stating that they had come in for a session and I give them a receipt. {In this case they are able to seek a licensed massage therapist of their choice.} Then my clients send it in via mail or fax. More and more insurance companies are starting to get on the ball with realizing the benefits of massage therapy, but unfortunately the profession is still where chiropractic care was years ago. But its getting there!
