Tuscarora is a part of the Northern region of Nevada known as “Cowboy Country.” It is located in Elko County. This area is also known for its mountains and ranches. The town was named for a Civil War ship that participated in the Confederate blockade. Major attractions include the Ruby Mountains and the old silver mines that were once the life-blood of the town. Each year in the summer season the National Basque festival is held in nearby Elko. Many ranches are located here, such as Silver Creek Ranch and Spanish Ranch. Children attend Elko County schools. One of the best places to visit when you are in Tuscarora is the "ghost town" area.
