Callicoon Center is a part of the North Western region of Sullivan County metro area of New York and given the name because of the Callicoon creek flowing through it. It experiences mild summers and very cold winters. The warmest month is July and a very good time to visit. The coldest month is January. Some of the recreational activities in Callicoon are water sport activities such as kayaking, canoeing, rafting, tubing, swimming, fishing and eagle watching. Farming is an essential way of income and farmers love to display their home grown products. During the months July - October there is some activity or the other where farmers can show off their produce. Contemporary art is given a lot of importance and many young artists take pride in displaying their work in the galleries in Callicoon.
