I'm guessing you are referring to nudity that is more prevalent in European advertising, which I wouldn't necessarily classify as "lewd".

Having lived in northern Europe, one of the main differences I observed was that Americans tended to censor for sex/nudity, while Europeans censored for violence. It seems that both of these elements can be interpreted to have a negative impact on society, and each culture has placed their focus on the one they feel could be most damaging.

Also, because nudity is pretty common outside of sexual contexts, it just isn't as polarizing an issue there.
