Troy is the county seat of Renselaer County, New York and is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River. Troy is an old industrial city that has suffered a sharp drop in population as manufacturing has moved to other areas. In an attempt to preserve architectural history many of the city's historic houses have been converted to restaurants. Troy has many Victorian houses with interesting architectural and decorative flourishes and has been the location for many films needing Victorian settings (the Time Machine, the Age of Innocence, the Emperor's Club). As part of an ongoing renewal effort an Antique District was recently established downtown and the Troy's Farmer's Market is held every Saturday (moving indoors during the winter). Troy also hosts a number of festivals including the Troy Turkey Trot, the Uncle Sam Parade, and The Classics Project. Troy is home to Hudson Valley Community College, Renselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Russell Sage College.

How does one's bookstore go about donating books to children? And should they be new books? Thank you!
Have you considered giving them to libraries where multiple children would benefit from the books. If there is more than one of each title, why not call your local schools to see if they have a recommendation. I know that many schools throughout the US have mentoring programs where adults go into the schools and read to specail needs children -- they may really enjoy them there. In addition, there is the Read-aloud Progrm that I believe is a nationwide program that could really use the books as well. And of course, giving them to a holiday program would be a wonderful use for them too if you have any in your area.
