If your duct is in the furnace room, you're in luck, simply ask a heating company to seal it. About 70% of the leaks in a heating system will be found in the furnace room or within 5 ft of the furnace.
Use a good quality latex duct sealing compound and seal the attenuators, the outlets. Seal any exposed duct, better yet, any metal duct in the installation.
Contrary to popular belief there is no duct sealer available on the market today that is able to be sprayed into a duct system that will not also cause air movement problems and dust.
-_- Duct cleaning is VERY subjective. Most ducts need to be sealed way before duct cleaning companies can even think about vacuuming them. Easy to moderate.
-_- Wrap your ducts with 1" fiberglass blankets made for this purpose. Called duct insulation and comes in rolls of 100 ft. Use staples and tape to close seams. Moderate to difficult.
If the duct noise is a booming or other loud noise on call, then there's an installation problem that might be pretty simple to fix, if you know the tricks of the trade.
-_- Ultimately I'd recommend calling your heating company to ask for an estimate. Or you could pay for a diagnostic fee and have that all in writing.
