Named after Stephen Decatur, Jr., an American war hero during the war of 1812, Decaturville is a small town in the eastern region of Tennessee. It's also the county seat of Decatur County. Its population was 859 as of the 2000 population census, and the nearest larger city is Parsons, TN. A major organization is the Decaturville Main Street Association whose goals are to foster community activities, awareness, commerce relationships and historical preservation of Decaturville. Each year in October, it hosts the Main Street Festival for the local residents. This is a family-friendly event that includes carnival rides, attractions for kids, and live musical entertainment. Local businesses include Brasher Accounting and the popular eatery and hang-out spot simply known as The Diner. Decaturville also has two public schools: Decaturville Elementary School, which serves students in grades K through 5, and Riverside High School, for students in grades 9 through 12.
