About Jonesborough

Jonesborough, Tennessee is the oldest town in Tennessee, and is a part of Washington County, located in the heart of the southern Appalachian Mountains in Northeast Tennessee. This town is rich in history, culture and diversity, and its a beautiful place to visit or live. One of the highlight events held yearly in Jonesborough is the National Storytelling Festival, which was started over 30 years ago. Jonesborough has a reputation for being the "Storytelling capital of the world." Jonesborough has been graced with unique and special guests and residents over the years. Residents like: Daniel Boone, David Jones, and President Andrew Jackson, who began his law practice in Jonesborough prior to being elected graced Jonesborough. This unique 18th century town is a wonderful place to stop while on the way to the Great Smokey Mountains. In addition to the historical culture, Jonesborough is known for it shopping, where specialty items abound like homemade quilts, antiques, glass and jewelry stores are all over Jonesborough's historic downtown. Some memorable events not to miss while visiting Jonesbourough, are, Jonesbourough Repertory Theatre, the Proud Annie Dinner Theatre, and the Appalachian Ghost Tours.
