The only thing that I would add to the other answers here is that if you need to light a dark basement, you will need strong light. When I was learning about lighting, I went to Lowel.com and took some of their free tutorials. They also offer inexpensive light kits. However, if this recording is a one time deal, you're better off renting a light kit. It's way less expensive and you'll get to practice with the tools the professionals use.
