Hamilton is a part of the South Central region of Texas known for its history and storybook characters. Major attractions include the Hamilton County Courthouse, built in 1887, and now registered as a National Register of Historic Places and the Bullman Bridge which is one of the few bowstring bridges remaining in Texas. The biggest schools here are Hamilton High School and Hamilton Elementary School. Two of the best places to visit when you are in Hamilton and hungry are Grahams Smokehouse and Red River BBQ Bar and Grill for a nice family atmosphere and delicious food. Famous persons from Hamilton include Mark Harelik, who was an actor and playwright. His most famous work was a play based on the life of his grandfather “The Immigrant.” Another notorious member of the Hamilton community is Brushy Bill, the man who professed to be the renowned outlaw, Billy the Kid, is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
