Bats

I am unsure if there is a best way to deal with bats. There are combination of things that can be done. Before doing anything remember that bats carry diseases, e. g. rabies. Consult with your states health department, the department of agriculture (chemical usage/recommendation), humane society for advice, and/or relocation options. Check with these entities whether your bats are listed as endangered species, or protected.
* Identify the point of entry. If unsure look for droppings that they will leave behind (outside)
* Identify the culprit. You may have to catch one to do this using a net, similar to that used by kids to catch butterflies. Bats drop from their nesting place before taking flight.
* Seal any point of entry with a suitable material-screens, caulk, steel wool, etc., after the bats leave at night looking for food. You can set up your net to capture them as they are leaving, just like fishing. Be careful not to get bitten.
* Enter your roof/attic to locate the exact roosting place, and clean out the mess left behind. Wear mask so that you don't inhale something nasty. There may be bat fleas hanging around. Remove, sack, and wash your clothes afterward.
* Place mothballs as deodorizer and to prevent return of other bats. You may want to hire a professional. It is not cheap.
