About Schertz

Schertz, Texas, is located on the northeast edge of San Antonio, and southeast of I-35. The San Antonio International Airport is nearby. There is a nice LaQuinta, and Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Selma. Sebastian Schertz, owned a general store here, in 1875, at the time that the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railroads arrived. There was a Post Office, called Cutoff, that was probably used as a railroad designation, in 1884. In 1889, the name was changed to Schertz, and had about 200 people. There was a grocery store, church, bank, and a cottin gin. There is an interesting cemetery, called the Schertz Cemetery. There are three counties in Schertz, the Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe.
