About Kanab

Kanab is the county seat of Kane County, and it serves as a central tourist destination for those visiting multiple nearby national parks and monuments. Major employers include Kane County Hospital and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, open to visitors interested in learning about "no-kill" animal shelters that do not euthanize companion pets. Students attend the Kane County School District. World-famous natural beauty rings the area around Kanab. The north rim of the Grand Canyon is 80 miles away. Zion National Park, known for its river valley, cottonwood trees, and dramatic towering cliffs, is only 30 miles away. Bryce Canyon is 75 miles away. The shops, lodging, dining, and historical and cultural amenities of Kanab make it a great base for exploring all of the parks. Kanab itself has been a scenic location for many Westerns, including The Lone Ranger. Right outside of town, visitors can hike or ride dune buggies or ATVs over the rosy dunes of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Against the pink vermillion cliffs, the city stages a fireworks show every 4th of July, a festival that starts off with a cannon blast. Levi Stewart, a Mormon pioneer, founded the town.
