Are the free website hosts in which one designs their own website good to use? What are some drawbacks to these?

There are many drawbacks to free websites. I say this as a person who loves the internet and website design, not even trying to sell you services.
If there is a cut-n-paste or drag-n-drop system, what is to say your website will look COMPLETELY different then Joe Shmo next door? There isn't... so you have now lost the "unique, this is My company" status. Also, assumingly you do not know html or any code, but you should see the type of code they use to power these websites, its horrible. I wonder if Google even likes it 'cause its so hard to read.
my advice- find an affordable designer who will do what you want, make it unique to your liking, and code it with SEO in mind, and you will much better off in the long run.
