How does one keep jewelry looking its best? What steps do you recommend when cleaning jewelry at home? Are there any jewelry cleaning products one should avoid?
A bottle of jewelry cleaner doesn't cost much, but if you are determined to make your own, here is a good solution: 1/3 cup non-sudsy clear household ammonia, 1 cup water, and 1/4 cup laundry detergent with no phosphates (I use ALL). You can use more ammonia if you can stand it, it will only work faster. Only use this on hard non-porous gemstones like Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Quartz, Beryl, etc. Do not use on pearls, turquoise, opal, amber, or any other soft stones. Keep covered when not in use and it will last a long time. As always, keep it away from any other chemicals.
What are the best types of lighting for energy efficiency? Are there any things that a homeowner can do to help lower their energy usage without sacrificing the quality or amount of light in the home?
