Depending on who the scrapbook is for and how long you want it to last will determine how much you want to spend on your supplies.

Other things I like to stick in my scrapbooks are locks of hair from my babies first hair cut, hospital bands from emergency runs, children's drawings, letters from loved ones, movie tickets, pressed flowers, pamphlets from places you've visited, basically anything flat. The bulkier the item the fatter your scrapbook gets.
