About Port Washington

Port Washington, on the shores of Lake Michigan, is the county seat of Ozaukee County. Within 30 miles of Milwaukee and its companies, the city also is home to major employer Wisconsin Electric Company. Students attend the Port Washington School District. Residents enjoy gathering in downtown, where there are numerous registered historic places. Spring brings the annual Community Street Festival, featuring samples of locally produced gourmet delights, including popcorn and smoked fish. Summer brings a weekly farmer's market. Visitors and residents have the chance to catch their own fish by embarking with one of many charter fishing companies. At the marina, visitors stroll out to the 1930s Art Deco lighthouse. Along the city's seven hills, there is more unusual architecture-- hidden staircases that walkers climb. A famous past resident was Emmy-winning TV-star Rita Burton.
