I think it's a good idea. We set up a business phone using TracFone. It's good for us b/c we don't get a ton of calls and it keeps phone costs low. We get 50 min for $10.69. The minutes automatically replenish themselves each month.

We also set up an additional Internet phone using the Phone.Com service. This is an awesome service. It's VoIP, and when a person leaves a vmail it will transpose it into text and send to you as an email. You can also create a neat automated voicemail message by typing in the text and it will transpose it into a sound voice recording. The cheapest plan is like $5.64/mo

Then of course we use the MerchantCircle lead generation program, where they assign you a toll free number for tracking purposes.

And we use eFax for our fax number. Absolutely love it. No machine to figure out. Just upload a file and send it like an email and it goes to the recipient's fax machine just like a regular fax.

We're big proponents of lowering costs w/ Web based communications applications. We use Google's free 411 service, and we have a number dedicated solely for text message marketing. We get all these services for under $60/mo.
