The incorporated town of Davis, with its altitude of 3,200 feet, is known as West Virginia's highest locality, and thus enjoys a cool climate all year round. In the summer, Davis' temperature averages a refreshing 75 degrees, while its snowfall measures up at 160 inches per year. Davis, situated on the densely-forested "Canada" plateau, was incorporated in 1880 as a lumber town. From the late 19th through the early 20th centuries, Davis made its name as a major provider of spruce and hardwoods. Today, important Davis businesses include APD Construction and Hellbender Burritos. The Davis Renaissance group, formed several years ago by local businessmen, has successfully sponsored a number of important beautification projects around town. This organization's main objective is the preservation of Davis' unique history and cultural heritage. Within ten miles of Davis can be found such popular attractions as Blackwater and Canaan Valley State Parks and the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge. These locations are favorites for such activities as skiing, whitewater rafting, bird watching, mountain biking and more.
