Marketing Tips & TrendsA forum for marketing tips would be really helpful for small business owners, especially those just starting out. I have started posting on my MC Blog but this would be a great place to hear collectively from many sources to discover what works and doesn't work, what not to do in the start-up stages, and how to maximize your ad dollars. I hope to see additions, comments, tips & suggestions here for others to read and learn from. I will begin posting tomorrow and see how it goes.

Video MarketingJust starting developing and using videos to market products and services, as well as to draw people to the Web Site. First one went up on YouTube just a short time ago http://youtube.com/abncpartiesandmore and I hope it is active by now. You are invited to leave comments, rate the video, and subscribe to the channel. Would be interested to know how others have found this technique to work.Posted by M Yublosky on Tue Oct 30, 2007 04:52:12 PM |

Video MarketingHey there - I have developed PersonalFinancetimes.com with video on all posts. I have an annual 120,000 subscriber database and embed video from Voxant on various topics of personal finance. I invite my Merchant Circle network to join as contributors in their respective markets and post articles about their services or products. I also produce their informative videos for minimal cost. Internet video marketing is where everything is going: on-demand; on-line information at a click. I invite anyone to join my network and get on board. 10,000 people at your storefront is a powerful sales engine. If anyone is interested in joining as a contributor or opening up another market - other state or city - please let me know. Contributors pay only $100 per month for one posting or blog a week. Video posting or vlogs is $185 per month (not including production if needed). An html newsletter is sent out every month to the subscribers to update them on new postings and events. Currently, I have opened Dallas, East Texas, Austin and San Antonio. I am open to venturing into other states because the expense is so small to get started. Reply: 7Search and more...I have found an inexpensive PPC with 7Search - I'm in the beginning stages of using the search engine and so far so good. Also, in my many readings posting a press release is a good social networking tool. Although not always free, I have found one at http://1888pressrelease.com. Lastly, if you have information worth bookmarking, go to it - social bookmarking is a great source to link building. Good Luck!Posted by Tamara Cochran on Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:54:10 AM |

Internet Free AdsI have found a variety of "free" ads to use on the net. I have only been using them for a month or so, the jury is out on the true value of the ads. I do have a page on Myspace which is generating a lot of interest, clicks on that page have increased significantly since I have added a slideshow and picture image. Facebook is another place to put yourself. Craiglist, UsnetAds.com, HotwebAds.com are others that have free ads. Since I am basically a "new" company (less than a year old) I feel getting the name out there is an all important part of being noticed. I'll try to keep you all posted as to the value of these free ads.Posted by PJ Dennie on Wed Mar 5, 2008 07:19:11 AM |

Legitbook - ArthurHi Arthur, I just took a look at the link you provided. The website doesn't really say all that much about the purpose of the site. I found more information in "something like craigslist" on your post to the forum, that told me more about the website, than the website. Can you elaborate a little more on what you want the website to achieve? And more on what you want visitors to do when they arrive at your site. Video PostingMy company recently started posting You Tube videos as well. We have had a good response to our videos and I think that this is the way to go. I have used a lot of different outlets to get our company out there. The videos seem to be quite popular. Feel free to check out our videos on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/refinedhardwood Posted by David Allen on Sat Mar 22, 2008 07:13:07 AM |

Before getting that certification, I did not realize that there was so much information for small business owners. GoSmallBiz helps small businesses with all aspects of their business. Value Dilution by Tooting Your Own HornIt is nice when you are a small business to have a place to go to get valuable and relevant tips for marketing. Not all entrepreneurs are great at marketing but they can do a lot with a small amount of good advice when it is separated from the clutter of blatant attempts of self-promotion. As the principal owner of a successful content marketing company, I can assure you that the only way this thread will increase in both traffic and popularity is if those who choose to post do so without using the space as a personal billboard. A post which does not offer practical advice absent of solutions which are based on using your products or services is nothing more than a cheap ad campaign. There are plenty of opportunities built in to the design of MerchantCircle which allow you to promote your businesses, do you really need to water down this environment with your ads too? Perhaps you are an amateur when it comes to marketing and do not know better. If so, take this advice to heart and then watch this thread grow to the point that it becomes the most interactive and relevant resource you can find for marketing tips and advice. I hope the ads will reduce and the relevant posts will increase. People who are struggling and looking for reachable and practical answers need a place to go. I created this thread in hopes that it would become a collective space that could guide others to greater success. Let's give them that chance. Posted by Michael Orr on Fri Apr 25, 2008 01:39:40 PM |

Re: Marketing Tips & TrendsI have found that the more that you blog, post free classified ads, join groups, and just really get your name out there for everyone in the world (with internet access:) to see the more exposure you will have and the more business you will reap as a result. There are lots of ways to get yourself out there. I recomend setting up your own blog (like this one: www.lakecitymtg.net) and linking it to everything imaginable. I hope you found what you were looking for. Good Luck!Posted by Christopher Ohlsen on Mon May 12, 2008 02:24:56 PM |

Christopher, thank you for taking the time to post something relevant to this forum. You did not say much but you said much more than those who use these forums to promote their businesses without adding anything of value to the readers. If they could only slow down long enough to realize the value of content strategies, they would recognize that not every post needs to be an advertisiment in order to grow their business (in fact it can be counter-productive). I appreciated your simple and relevant post. Keep it up.

Re: Marketing Tips & TrendsMichael, Thank you for the reply. You are absolutely correct that constantly advertising your "opportunity" and self promoting can hurt your business. With the advent of the internet and our culture's new wave of self educator's you truly have to bring a level of value to your business that will seperate you from the masses of people in the same industry. I earn a lot of business by doing my part to educate my clients and consumers in general. I have met with success in this supposedly "down market" because I am still around to serve the public; the reason that I am still around to serve the public is because I understand that regardless of the industry that you are in during the times in which we are living you have to approach your business as a "consumer centric" business. Operate with integrity and your values in tact and you will succeed! Posted by Christopher Ohlsen on Mon May 12, 2008 06:37:33 PM |
