Why would my ceiling fan light have a 1 to 2 second delay before coming on when I flip the light switch?

"Hello Terri, It is normal to have a slight delay when using a remote control for the ceiling fan. It takes a moment for the remote receiver to energize and return the light to it's last setting. If no remote control is involved, this is most likely a symptom of the 190watt limiter that has been added to all ceiling fan lights in the last year. This device is something the government has implemented to make sure you are not exceeding the maximum of 190 watts on the light fixture.
