How to drive long time customers away.
Lesson #1. If your customers are elderly or stranded with a medical circumstance, adapt a policy that insures they will not send any money your way. For several years I have periodically ordered a delivery of ten 40 lb. bags of salt for my water softening system and ...called up with my credit card to pay for delivery. (I also tipped the delivery man when he came). Now, I have a broken leg and find that the "policy" has changed so that I must come in (in the worst winter we have had in years) and pay for the delivery in person. Apparently Ace Hardware does not connect customer service with company income or even basic goodwill.
