AC Auto Repair Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting an auto air conditioner can sometimes be a challenging task. Even though you might be worried that the repair might cost a lot of money, by listening to your car and troubleshooting ahead of time you can decrease the amount of damage done to it. Here are some common auto AC problems.

  • Auto AC repair troubleshooting is best for someone who is comfortable around cars. One of the most common problems to troubleshoot is a rattling within the air conditioner. This is usually a result of parts or components coming loose. Loose parts such as the compressor can produce a rattling noise.

  • If the AC in your car has a smell, then you can search around to discover where the smell is coming from. Usually a small dead animal or contamination of bacteria will result in the AC emitting a bad smell. If the cause of the smell is an overgrowth of bacteria, this can be fixed by taking the car to a mechanic. He will have to disinfect the car’s evaporator to remove the smell.

  • The main refrigerant used in an AC is freon. If this refrigerant leaks from the AC, then it does not function correctly and the equipment needs to be repaired. The AC might initially have enough freon, but a hole within the AC components or a space between connections to the hoses can result in leaks. The connection will have to be tightened and level of refrigerant replaced.

  • If your auto AC blows a variety of hot and cold air, there might be something wrong with the machinery’s thermostat or a layer of ice on the components. The thermostat will need to be checked for any damage to it and be reset. If the air conditioner within your car is blowing either cold or hot air because of ice, an auto AC mechanic will need to remove this layer using vacuum suction. In some circumstances, faulty wiring can also be responsible for a variation in hot and cold air being blown.
